Organized by the Department of Architecture, a seminar titled \u201cDisaster Urbanization: Findings from the 2023 Kahramanmara\u015f Earthquakes\u201d was held on February 6 at the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the seminar, Assoc. Prof. B\u00fclent Batuman, chair of the Department of Architecture, presented the preliminary findings of his ongoing research examining the relationship between urbanization policies and disaster vulnerability in Turkish cities, with a focus on the 2023 Kahramanmara\u015f earthquakes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The research project, titled \u201cUrbanization Policies and Earthquake Vulnerability in Small and Mid-Size Cities: An Investigation on the Kahramanmara\u015f Earthquakes,\u201d analyzed five cities of different scales in the disaster-affected region: Antakya, Ad\u0131yaman, Elbistan, \u0130slahiye and G\u00f6lba\u015f\u0131.
