Bilkent University held the first event of its Science Caf\u00e9 series on Saturday, February 21, at the Do\u011fan Ta\u015fdelen Contemporary Arts Center, in collaboration with \u00c7ankaya Municipality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The talk, titled \u201cFostering a Culture of Creativity in Science,\u201d was delivered by Prof. Tayfun \u00d6z\u00e7elik, Chair of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. In his presentation, Prof. \u00d6z\u00e7elik reflected on more than 30 years of scientific collaboration with Nobel laureate Prof. Aziz Sancar, highlighting the story behind Professor Sancar\u2019s Nobel medal, now part of the permanent collection of the An\u0131tkabir Atat\u00fcrk and Independence War Museum. Addressing young audiences in particular, he emphasized the central role of disciplined hard work and self-confidence\u2014believing in one\u2019s own ability to learn, persist and succeed\u2014as foundations for achievement in science and in life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. \u00d6z\u00e7elik also introduced a practical framework for scientific progress he calls the \u201c7+1 D cycle\u201d: Digest, Discuss, Dismiss, Design, Do, Discover, Disseminate, plus Develop\u2014a governable model that translates creativity into systematic action and outcomes (https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5eyBG2uaWYs<\/a>)<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organized under the leadership of the Council of Higher Education (Y\u00d6K), Science Caf\u00e9 events are being held across T\u00fcrkiye to bring science into public spaces beyond university campuses. The initiative aims to make scientific knowledge more accessible and to create opportunities for direct interaction between researchers and the wider community.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The Science Caf\u00e9 series will continue with upcoming talks featuring different speakers and topics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
