On Wednesday, February 25, Prof. \u0130hsan Do\u011framac\u0131, the founder of Bilkent University, was commemorated on the 16th anniversary of his passing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early in the afternoon, a ceremony was held at the site of Prof. Do\u011framac\u0131\u2019s grave, outside the Do\u011framac\u0131zade Ali Pa\u015fa Mosque. Family members along with Bilkent University Board of Trustees Chair G\u00fclsev Kale, Bilkent University Rector K\u00fcr\u015fat Aydo\u011fan, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to T\u00fcrkiye H.E. Rashad Mammadov, representatives of the Turkish National Committee for UNICEF, the International Children\u2019s Center, the Turkish National Pediatric Association and Bilkent Holding gathered outside the mosque to pay their respects to Prof. Do\u011framac\u0131\u2019s memory. After the laying of wreaths on the grave, attendees signed a memorial book.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador Mammadov and representatives from the embassy also visited the statue that had been presented to Prof. Do\u011framac\u0131 during his lifetime by Azerbaijan\u2019s National Leader, Heydar Aliyev. They set flowers in front of the statue as a symbol of the close friendship between the two figures.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the evening, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra gave a concert dedicated to the memory of Prof. Do\u011framac\u0131. The orchestra, conducted by G\u00fcrer Aykal, performed pieces by Gluck, Bruch and Elgar, with \u00d6zgecan G\u00fcn\u00f6z as violin soloist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
