The O\u011fuz Tansel Poetry Award was presented at a ceremony held on Tuesday, September 29. Organized by the O\u011fuz Tansel Center for Turkish Literature Research and Application (OTTEM), the day opened with a panel on poetry at 2 p.m. with Alphan Akg\u00fcl, Bar\u0131\u015f A\u011f\u0131r, G\u00fclce Ba\u015fer and Haluk \u00d6ner, followed by the award ceremony at 4 p.m.
Asst. Prof. Nilay \u00d6zer, who completed her master\u2019s and doctoral studies in Bilkent\u2019s Department of Turkish Literature, received the award for her book \u201cY\u00fcz\u00fc Kelebeklerle \u00d6rt\u00fcl\u00fc.\u201d
The jury based its decision on Dr. \u00d6zer\u2019s success in reconstructing the fragmented and scattered nature of human existence through an original world of imagery; her work was recognized for moving poetry beyond a distanced form of text-making into what the jury called an \u201carchaeology of the self\u201d that traces fragilities and hidden lives.
Mert Tutucu received special mention for the avant-garde collection \u201cApokrif \u0130nciler,\u201d which blends the language of history, politics and the street in a distinctive poetic style to address questions of identity, otherness and subalternity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
