Every year, Bilkent University\u2019s O\u011fuz Tansel Turkish Literature Research Center awards prizes in the fields of \u201cChildren\u2019s Literature,\u201d \u201cFolklore\u201d and \u201cPoetry\u201d in the name of O\u011fuz Tansel.
This year, the Poetry Award was presented to \u00d6mer Erdem for his book \u201cG\u00fcne\u015f Kal\u0131r Bir Ba\u015f\u0131na\u201d published by Everest Yay\u0131nlar\u0131 in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 2022 award selection committee consisted of Alphan Akg\u00fcl, Mehmet Kalpakl\u0131, Birhan Keskin, Orhan Tekelio\u011flu and Levent Y\u0131lmaz. On November 24, preceding the award ceremony, in a panel discussion titled \u201cThoughts on Modern Poetry,\u201d Devrim Dirlikyapan, Alphan Akg\u00fcl and Murat \u00dcst\u00fcbal talked about modern Turkish poetry in general and focused on \u00d6mer Erdem\u2019s poetry, both thematically and technically. They explained how Erdem creates a new lyrical discourse that connects the past and the present by applying his knowledge of verse meter, manner and composition, specific to classical poetry, to contemporary poetry. In addition, they listed Erdem\u2019s original style, in which he subtly creates counterintuitive metaphors and plays around with tone through cadence and rhymes, as the reason for the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A performance of Joseph Haydn\u2019s \u201cTrio with Piano\u201d (Ya\u011fmur Ak, Ada \u00c7a\u011flar and Yi\u011fit \u00dclgen) followed the panel.
