November 10, 2022, marked the 84th anniversary of the death of Turkey\u2019s beloved Atat\u00fcrk. Bilkent University commemorated the solemn occasion over the course of two days with several events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the morning of Thursday, November 10, members of the Bilkent community gathered at Bilkent\u2019s Atat\u00fcrk Monument to observe a moment of silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A ceremony took place at Mithat \u00c7oruh Auditorium afterwards. It began with a moment of silence and the national anthem, followed by a mini-concert performed by the Bilkent Youth Quartet. Next, students Muhammed Berk Alemdar (EE), \u00d6yk\u00fc \u00d6zbirinci (EE), Mehmet R\u0131fat \u00d6zkurt (EE), \u015eimal Songur (LAW) and Beril S\u00fcl\u00fc (ME) presented their HIST200 project, \u201cThe Program for Sending Students Abroad in the Field of Educational Sciences in the Early Republican Period: The Experiences of \u015e\u00fckran O\u011fuzkan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this, Prof. B\u00fclent \u00c7apl\u0131, acting dean of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, gave a presentation titled \u201cA White Boat: Atat\u00fcrk\u2019s Mobile Exhibition Project Introducing the Young Republic to the World.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his presentation Prof. \u00c7apl\u0131 showed an excerpt from the documentary \u201cBlack Sea \u2013 Seyr-i T\u00fcrkiye.\u201d The documentary tells the story of the traveling exhibition project that was realized at the suggestion of Atat\u00fcrk three years after the proclamation of the Republic to introduce our country to Europe. The Seyr-i T\u00fcrkiye documentary brings to light the journey of the Black Sea ship from Karak\u00f6y to Leningrad, which was commissioned to promote the new identity of Turkish society in the process of modernization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 12, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Romain Dumas, with Simon Ghraichy on piano, presented a concert in memory of Atat\u00fcrk. The performance, which took place at the Bilkent Concert Hall, included pieces by E. Grieg, M. Cetiz and S. Barber.<\/p>\n\n\n
