Dr. Ay\u00e7a Arslan Erg\u00fcl from Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) was awarded support for her project \u201cUnlock the Early Life Pathological Imprinting of Alzheimer\u2019s Disease via Lifestyle.\u201d The support comes from the EU Joint Programme \u2013 Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) as part of the institute\u2019s 2022 Project Call on \u201cUnderstanding the Mechanisms for Non-Pharmacological Interventions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Arslan Erg\u00fcl will work in partnership with Dr. Daniel Erny from the University of Freiburg, Dr. Ziad Al Nabhani from Bern University Hospital, Dr. Evgenia Salta from the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience and Dr. Francesca Ronchi from Charit\u00e9 \u2013 Universit\u00e4tsmedizin Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this project these five multidisciplinary research groups, spanning fields of neurology, immunology, microbiology and cognitive memory, will work together using cutting-edge omics technologies. Translational approaches with human tissues, gnotobiotic zebrafish and mouse models will also be used in this process. The study aims to pave the way for a generation of improved approaches to prevent and\/or treat Alzheimer\u2019s disease (AD) later in adulthood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EU JPND is the largest global research initiative to tackle the challenge of neurodegenerative diseases.
