The Bilkent University Human Rights Research Studies and Application Center, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Turkey Office and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ankara, organized an essay competition on \u201cEnvironmental Law, Climate Justice and Disaster Law\u201d from June to September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The award ceremony was held at the C-Block Auditorium, on October 3. The top three winners, selected from a robust pool of applications, were honored with certificates and prizes by Rector K\u00fcr\u015fat Aydo\u011fan; Ms. Nathalie Lintvelt, Deputy Ambassador to the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; and Ms. Louisa Vinton, UNDP Turkey Resident Representative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms. Nagehan \u0130lemin Alan, a PhD Candidate at Galatasaray Law School, took first place with her writing on \u201cCollective Protection Instruments in the Protection of Nature: Possibilities and Discussions on the Turkish Administrative Judicial System.\u201d Mr. Arif Do\u011fukan Erkin, a 3rd-year student at MEF Law School, secured second place with his essay, \u201cAnthropocentric Thought and Climate: From the Right to the Environment to the Right of Mother Nature.\u201d Lastly, Ms. Melike \u00c7olako\u011flu, a research assistant at Ankara Hac\u0131 Bayram Veli Faculty of Law, claimed third place with her essay on \u201cClimate Justice and Child Rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This competition aimed to enhance awareness about sustainability, climate change, environmental protection and the rights of future generations while also encouraging young academics to engage in research on the topic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
