Prof. Efe Alpay of the Department of Graphic Design, was selected from a pool of 172 entries, standing out among the top 10 at the IGA \u0130stanbul Airport competition (IGART).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the character of \u0130stanbul Airport and Turkey\u2019s geography and culture, the IGART competition aims to integrate the works of artists of every generation into the field of plastic arts in Turkey and bring them together with universal values.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis project was a proposal to produce the work I had previously created from audio data as NFT as a physical data sculpture 32 meters high. Thanks to this competition, this sculpture, which is up to six meters wide and planned to be manufactured with 3D printing technologies using industrial robots, is one step closer to being physically realized. \u201cCall for Life\u201d is the first part of my series of sculptures I call Mnemonic Data Sculptures,\u201d says Dr. Alpay.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/bilkentnews.bilkent.edu.tr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/8qilLsTR-2-1024x724.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5768\" width=\"512\" height=\"362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bilkentnews.bilkent.edu.tr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/8qilLsTR-2-1024x724.png 1024w, https:\/\/bilkentnews.bilkent.edu.tr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/8qilLsTR-2-300x212.png 300w, https:\/\/bilkentnews.bilkent.edu.tr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/8qilLsTR-2-768x543.png 768w, https:\/\/bilkentnews.bilkent.edu.tr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/8qilLsTR-2-1536x1085.png 1536w, https:\/\/bilkentnews.bilkent.edu.tr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/8qilLsTR-2.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cCall for Life\u201d is a work of art created by transforming a collective sonic memory into digital-physical objects using computational design&nbsp; methods. The work was generated using audio data recorded during a rescue operation in&nbsp; Samanda\u011f, Hatay following the February 6th Kahramanmara\u015f earthquake. The works, which Dr. Alpay calls Mnemonic Data Sculptures, enable ephemeral memories to become permanent and to gain a physical presence by combining memories with digital designs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This sculpture was produced as a digital-physical object and sold as an NFT to contribute to emergency relief activities. Over 60 editions have been sold, and 100% of the profits have been donated to the relief efforts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Alpay will present \u201cCall for Life\u201d in Cer Modern\u2019s Flow gallery on December 2 while also revealing a new unreleased project called \u201cA Giant Leap.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information: <a href=\"http:\/\/efealpay.com\/callforlife\"><strong>efealpay.com\/callforlife<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Call for Life,\u201d a project by Asst.
