\u201cHot L Baltimore,\u201d an evocative play, is brought to life by senior theatre students from the Department of Performing Arts under the direction of the department\u2019s chair, Jason Hale. The students were set to perform Lanford Wilson\u2019s acclaimed play in a production that premiered on November 21 at the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts. This performance marks a significant milestone for the students, showcasing one of their final projects after years of intense work and dedication. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drama, known for its exploration of decay, resilience, and the lives of marginalized people, centers on the tenants of a once-grand hotel that is about to be demolished. Hale, who has previously performed \u201cHot L Baltimore\u201d in New York, described the play as “a very unique work,” noting its ability to resonate deeply with modern audiences. He explained that the play was chosen specifically for the composition of the class, which consists of seven women and four men. \u201cIt was one of the most suitable plays we could perform with our class,\u201d he stated.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cast of \u201cHot L Baltimore\u201d includes \u0130brahim Cem Civan, Ya\u011fmur Demir, Tutku Lal Demirci, Esat Mert Do\u011fan, Ya\u011fmur Tara G\u00fclener, Damla K\u00f6se, Lara Mayda, Can Do\u011fa Pat\u0131r, \u0130rem Yavuz, Eyl\u00fcl Yolcu and Ard\u0131l Z\u00fcmr\u00fct. The students have spent months preparing, with each actor fully immersing themselves in the demanding roles and the complex emotions needed to portray Wilson’s vivid characters.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Impact of Senior Graduation Project on Students\u2019 Futures <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked how this final production might influence the students\u2019 outlook on theatre, Hale expressed hope that the experience would leave a lasting impression: \u201cThis is their chance to apply everything they’ve learned over the years,\u201d he said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHot L Baltimore\u201d promises a powerful, emotional experience, unique and rich storytelling, realistic staging, and the passion of young artists on the cusp of their professional careers. Hale is confident that this unique production will resonate with Bilkent’s theatregoers, offering a profound and memorable evening while marking a significant achievement for the students.  <\/p>\n\n\n

The play is translated by Ege Tolga, assisted by guest actor Berkay \u015eekerci. The premiere took place on November 21<\/strong> at the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts. The remaining performances will be held on November 28<\/strong> and December 5<\/strong>, 12<\/strong>, and 19.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
