In celebration of World Human Rights Day, the Center for Human Rights Studies and Research in cooperation with Faculty of Law, hosted its annual academic event series, focusing this year on children’s rights. The Children\u2019s Rights Conference, held on Wednesday, December 11, aimed to raise awareness about children’s rights, a topic that had recently garnered attention due to negative news reports in T\u00fcrkiye. The conference provided a platform to discuss how children, as individuals, can access their rights, and what steps can be taken to improve their situation. At the conference, the legal and social aspects of children’s rights were discussed by experts working in both theory and practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The conference began with opening speeches by Asst. Prof. Ay\u015fe Dicle Ergin, Director of the Center for Human Rights Studies and Research; Prof. \u00c7a\u011flar Manavgat, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law; and Rector Prof. K\u00fcr\u015fat Aydo\u011fan. The conference was structured in two sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first session, moderated by Dr. Z\u00fclfiye Y\u0131lmaz Yama\u00e7, the following presentations were made: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prof. Kas\u0131m Karata\u015f from the Hacettepe University Children\u2019s Rights Center, who spoke on “Protecting Children from Neglect and Abuse”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr. G\u00fcnhan G\u00f6n\u00fcl Ko\u015far from the Faculty of Law at Hacettepe University, who presented on “The Violation of the Personality Rights of Publicly Known Children Through the Media”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Burcu Meltem Ar\u0131k Aky\u00fcz from the Education Reform Initiative, who discussed “Children\u2019s Right to Education”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The second session, moderated by Asst. Prof. Elvin Evrim Dalk\u0131l\u0131\u00e7, featured practitioners as experts.
