On May 5, 2025, the Human Rights Center (B\u0130HM) organized a workshop titled \u201cChildren in the Digital World: Legal Issues and Solutions\u201d at the \u0130hsan and Ayser Do\u011framac\u0131 Science, Culture and Arts Center. The event brought together approximately 50 experts from diverse professional backgrounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. G\u00fclsev Kale, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees; Prof. K\u00fcr\u015fat Aydo\u011fan, Rector; and Prof. Ba\u015fak Baysal, Dean of the Faculty of Law. The keynote address on \u201cChildren and the Digital World\u201d was presented by Prof. Ferhunde \u00d6ktem, a leading scholar in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. She discussed the psychological effects of digitalization on children and shared recent scientific findings in the field. This was followed by a keynote speech by Prof. Engin Y\u0131ld\u0131r\u0131m, a Justice of the Turkish Constitutional Court, on \u201cThe TCC\u2019s Perspective on Children\u2019s Rights in Its Judgments.\u201d His presentation offered an in-depth analysis of the Court\u2019s jurisprudence concerning children\u2019s rights in individual applications and constitutional review decisions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The workshop welcomed a wide range of participants, including academics, medical professionals, judges, prosecutors, lawyers, social workers, school counsellors and principals, as well as representatives from relevant public institutions and civil society organizations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moderated by Asst. Prof. Ay\u015fe Dicle Ergin, Director of B\u0130HM and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law, the workshop aimed to address the legal challenges stemming from children\u2019s growing interaction with digital technologies, adopting a multidisciplinary and multidimensional approach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants engaged in thematic working groups to explore current issues children face in the digital world. These sessions assessed the legal dimensions of the topic, the adequacy of the current legal framework and implementation challenges, using concrete case scenarios developed for specific focus areas. Among the facilitators were Asst. Prof. Elvin Evrim Dalk\u0131l\u0131\u00e7 and Asst. Prof. Z\u00fclfiye Y\u0131lmaz from Bilkent University Faculty of Law. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
