Bilkent University UNAM will be hosting and organizing its annual NanoDay on Friday, May 23, 2005. The event brings together leading figures from the international scientific community, as well as researchers, students and industry professionals from Turkey and around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of NanoDay, which has been held since 2014, UNAM will host Prof. Philip Russell from the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, recognized for his pioneering work in photonic crystals and fiber optic technologies, and Prof. Hans Hilgenkamp from the University of Twente, who will present his research on superconductivity and quantum devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To date, NanoDay has brought together more than 3,000 participants through science. The event also provides students from Bilkent University and other institutions the opportunity to express themselves through the NanoArt competition and the NanoPoster competition and exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NanoDay 2025 Keynote Speakers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Philip Russell<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Philip Russell<\/em><\/strong> received his undergraduate degree in physics from the University of Oxford and completed his PhD at the University of Southampton. He is the founding director of the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light and is renowned for his pioneering work in photonic crystals and fiber optics. His research focuses on the control and guidance of light. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2000, received the European Physical Society\u2019s Prize for Applied Aspects of Quantum Electronics and Optics in 2005 and was honored with the Rumford Medal by the Royal Society in 2014 for his contributions to optical fiber technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Hans Hilgenkamp<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Hans Hilgenkamp<\/em><\/strong> received his undergraduate and doctoral degrees in physics from the University of Groningen. He is currently affiliated with the University of Twente, where he conducts important research on cuprate superconductors and Josephson junctions. Renowned for his pioneering work in low-temperature physics, quantum devices and superconductivity, he was awarded the Europhysics Prize by the European Physical Society in 2005 and was elected to the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NanoArt 2025 Competition Celebrates Exquisite Nano-Scale Images<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NanoArt competition strives to recognize captivating images captured at the nanometer scale through innovative imaging techniques and cutting-edge technologies by students from diverse fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students are invited to partake in the NanoArt contest by submitting images that showcase intricate details measuring below 1,000 nm that were observed and recorded within laboratory settings using material characterization devices such as transmission electron, confocal or atomic force microscopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By providing a platform for participants to share their scientific breakthroughs, the NanoArt competition fosters a collaborative environment that encourages the dissemination of advancements within the fields of nanotechnology and imaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
