The 19th Turkish Kendo Championship was held on October 3–4 at the Dormitories Sports Hall, bringing together more than 90 athletes from kendo clubs in İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Antalya and other cities. It opened on Friday, October 2, with a welcome practice that included visiting instructors from abroad, who took part as guest instructors. Competitions ran in six categories over the weekend—individual events on Saturday, team events on Sunday—and closed with Dan grading examinations. Bilkent alumnus Umut Cansu (EE) and İsa Ardıç, a PhD student in the Department of Chemistry, passed their first Dan examinations. Mert Ege Türksever, a first-year student in the Department of Architecture, also represented Bilkent.
