Too Many Tabs Open
Lately, I have been feeling like there simply isn’t enough time for everything on my plate. Working remotely as a long-term intern, being a senior and applying for master’s programs, all while trying to maintain a social life, may not have been my best idea. My brain feels like a browser with too many tabs open. There is some annoying music playing somewhere, but I cannot even find which tab it is coming from.
Still, whenever I get a little time to myself, I like to keep up with the things that interest me, including fashion. This year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show gave me plenty to talk about. The Fantasy Bra returned after an eight-year break, having last been worn by Elsa Hosk in 2018. After seeing Kylie Jenner wearing it this year, I felt slightly better about my own decision-making skills. Apparently, the people at Victoria’s Secret have also been making questionable choices.
But credit where it is due: Tate McRae was incredible, and her wings gave her the prettiest fairy-like look. Music is such a big part of what makes these shows work. It sets the mood and gives the runway its energy, and her performance definitely deserved its own moment of appreciation. I also loved seeing some of the elaborate wings on other models that reminded me of the older shows, especially the white, angelic designs.
Beyond that, I simply enjoy seeing women shine. For me, part of the appeal of these shows is watching women being celebrated and enjoying their moment. Seeing Barbara Palvin looking so happy on the runway after recently becoming a mother was especially lovely. It made me appreciate everything a woman’s body can do and the different stages of life it carries her through.
Speaking of runways, Serenay Sarıkaya’s walk at L’Oréal Paris’s Le Défilé during Paris Fashion Week also deserves a mention. It received mixed reactions, but I loved it. She looked radiant and seemed to be having fun. She was basically sunshine in human form, which, honestly, is how I would love to be described.
Anyway, that explains a few of the tabs open in my brain. With midterms approaching, I should probably start paying attention to the ones containing my lecture notes. If you are also wondering how we have already reached this point in the semester, you are not alone. It feels like I was getting used to my schedule just yesterday, and now I am supposed to know everything we have covered so far.
Before I go, happy Republic Day, Bilkenters! I am grateful to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and everyone who made our Republic possible. As a young woman pursuing her education, making her own choices and dreaming about her future, I feel that gratitude personally.
I hope you enjoy the celebrations and, in whatever time remains for midterm studying, good luck to all of us. Hopefully, we will manage to close a few tabs.
