As classes gain momentum at Bilkent University, the realm of fashion does not fall far
behind. Embracing the role of a student is part and parcel of campus life, but there is no
need to sacrifice style in the process.
A practice which dates back to the 16th century, the school uniform served as a means
to distinguish members of the campus community from outsiders. It aimed to foster a
sense of unity among students, transcending differences in socioeconomic status, race
and culture.
Fast forward to the 21st century, and the purpose of school uniforms has been flipped on its
head. Gone are the days of rigid conformity and the loss of individual identity. Instead,
today’s students are encouraged to embrace self-expression, using their personal
wardrobes as canvases to showcase their creativity and inner selves to the world.
Introducing the latest fashion style set: the Academia trend. This distinctive style is
characterized by pairing an oversized blazer with a pleated miniskirt. Notably,
this iconic trend has been seen on the likes of Rosalía, Gigi
Hadid and Taylor Swift, setting the stage for its widespread popularity.
Here at Bilkent University, where academic pursuits and personal expressions
seamlessly merge, fashion has become a realm for self-discovery and individuality. The
Academia trend combines this fusion of intellect and style. As the semester unfolds, so
too does fashion and self-expression, making each day on campus a captivating
chapter in the ongoing saga of personal style and growth.
