The BILT 2023/24 Theater Text Auditions are organized by BILT (Bilkent International Laboratory Theater), a professional ensemble established within the Department of Performing Arts at Bilkent University that brings together theater lovers from Ankara with original works of theater every season. The ensemble, which aims to develop and stage new plays by contemporary Turkish playwrights, will accept applications until March 30.
The first play developed and staged by BILT was “77th Branch,” written by BILT member Barkın Kenan. The troupe called on all playwrights in Turkey to submit their unpublished and unstaged plays in 2019. Among the 55 texts submitted, 10 plays were deemed worthy of a stage reading. Among these texts, the play “Değirmen,” written by Zana Kılıç, was staged last year by the BILT team under the direction of Ayşe Emel Mesci as the second play of the ensemble. Jason Hale is the general artistic director of BILT and chair of the Department of Performing Arts.
Applications will continue until March 30. Detailed information and application conditions are available at https://theatre.bilkent.edu.tr/bilt-play-submission/ and the @bilkent_bilt instagram page.
