THEA Students Stage Heiner Müller’s “The Hamletmachine”

The provocative and experimental play “The Hamletmachine” by Heiner Müller will be staged as the junior project of the Department of Performing Arts students for the 2024–25 academic year. Directed by Doğu Yaşar Akal (THEA/’09), the production reimagines Shakespeare’s Hamlet through a fragmented, postmodern lens—delving into themes of identity, disillusionment, political unrest and the role of the intellectual in society.

Performed at the Bilkent Chamber Theater, the play features İrem Naz Aloğlu, Elif Ekizoğlu and Burak Toptaş, with guest performer Onur Dilek. The creative team includes assistant director and choreographer Onur Dilek, lighting designer Yılmaz Ertekin, costume designer Yağmur Demir and poster designer Ayça Eren. Uzel Keçeoğlu serves as assistant director and part of the backstage crew, along with Deniz Bekaroğlu, Sude Önder, Boran Yaman and Nehir Yılmaz.

Performances are scheduled for April 23 and 30, and May 7 at 7 p.m. at Bilkent Chamber Theater. Tickets can be reserved via ticket.bilkent.edu.tr. The play runs for 70 minutes without intermission and will be performed in English.
