On Wednesday, February 25, Prof. İhsan Doğramacı, the founder of Bilkent University, was commemorated on the 16th anniversary of his passing.
Early in the afternoon, a ceremony was held at the site of Prof. Doğramacı’s grave, outside the Doğramacızade Ali Paşa Mosque. Family members along with Bilkent University Board of Trustees Chair Gülsev Kale, Bilkent University Rector Kürşat Aydoğan, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Türkiye H.E. Rashad Mammadov, representatives of the Turkish National Committee for UNICEF, the International Children’s Center, the Turkish National Pediatric Association and Bilkent Holding gathered outside the mosque to pay their respects to Prof. Doğramacı’s memory. After the laying of wreaths on the grave, attendees signed a memorial book.
Ambassador Mammadov and representatives from the embassy also visited the statue that had been presented to Prof. Doğramacı during his lifetime by Azerbaijan’s National Leader, Heydar Aliyev. They set flowers in front of the statue as a symbol of the close friendship between the two figures.
In the evening, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra gave a concert dedicated to the memory of Prof. Doğramacı. The orchestra, conducted by Gürer Aykal, performed pieces by Gluck, Bruch and Elgar, with Özgecan Günöz as violin soloist.
