For most of us, a new role in life presents a variety of challenges and some surprises, too. Advice from someone who’s already been there can help get us through the rough spots. In the case of university students, who better than seniors to offer the benefit of their experience?
This week, Berker Arslan, a fourth-year International Relations student, has some words of wisdom for this year’s freshmen.
Q. What advice would you give freshmen about the Bilkent experience?
A university like Bilkent offers a wide range of opportunities. Experience everything you can while in college. You will know yourself better and realize what you want after this experience. As a result, you can take concrete actions in the last years of your academic career to lead the life you desire.
Q. What’s something students should keep in mind throughout their time at Bilkent?
There are numerous opportunities for students in Bilkent that go beyond your career. These are associated with academic, social and professional life. Despite what is offered, the university does not require students to take advantage of these opportunities, which is contrary to how things should be. As a student at Bilkent, you should seek out these opportunities. Identify and take advantage of the offerings that will help you achieve your goals.
Q. Any tips or tricks to surviving life at Bilkent?
• Having good friends who understand you well
• Doing sports / activities
• Partying, of course!
• Having the discipline to survive academic life
