For most of us, a new role in life presents a variety of challenges and some surprises, too. Advice from someone who’s already been there can help get us through the rough spots. In the case of university students, who better than seniors to offer the benefit of their experience?
This week, Zeynep Turan, a fourth-year Law student, has some words of wisdom for this year’s freshmen.
Q. What advice would you give freshmen about the Bilkent experience?
Appreciate and enjoy every moment you spend here. Sometimes the lessons and exams can be very difficult and unbearable, but somehow you overcome it. Meet as many people as you can, make friends from different departments. Dare to step out of your comfort zone. Bilkent is an ideal place for this.
Q. What’s something students should keep in mind throughout their time at Bilkent?
Time passes very quickly in Bilkent. You may not realize that school will one day be over when you waste
time on unnecessary things and worry about everyday troubles, but it will be.
Q. Any tips or tricks to surviving life at Bilkent?
Unless you have a plan, you are constantly missing something: lectures, exams, parties…you have no choice but to plan your time wisely.
