Bilkent University has mobilized all of its resources in order to provide temporary shelter to earthquake victims. In the first stage, Bilkent quickly organized the Malatya school construction site and met the shelter needs of 150 earthquake victims, while Bilkent Erzurum school opened their doors to 35 others. The university has started to allocate empty dormitories and faculty housing units on campus to students’ families who were directly affected. Bilkent has also arranged transportation services for students and employees who wanted to participate in the blood donation campaigns organized immediately after the earthquake.
Bilkent Holding companies have taken an active role in the relief efforts from onset. A fleet of 132 trained Bilkent Holding employees and 40 vehicles were urgently deployed to the disaster area to participate in rescue operations. Bilkent companies are offering services to earthquake victims to provide tents, blankets, food and other vital needs. To date, Bilintur Catering has set up mobile kitchens in five locations to serve 25,000 meals of hot food daily. Bilkent Hotel is also currently hosting 50 families who are victims of the earthquake. Tepe Prefabrik is building 475 containers for earthquake victims with the support of TAV Airports and Fraport TAV Antalya.
