The first session of the art therapy classes for students affected by the recent earthquakes in South-eastern Turkey began last week.
Offered by Dr. Ceren Gürdere, Clinical Psychologist at the Psychological Counseling and Development Center and part-time instructor at the Department of Psychology, and Beata Zalewska, Artist in Residence at the Department of Fine Arts, the art therapy classes provide psychotherapeutic assistance to those personally affected by the earthquakes. Within the classes, participants use artistic techniques, including drawing, acrylic painting and collage, to process trauma related experiences, emotions, feelings and cognitions.
