Associate Prof. Esra Çuhadar of the Political Science and Public Administration Department has been appointed as a senior mediation advisor to the United Nations Standby Team of the UN Mediation Support Unit under the Department of Peacebuilding and Political Affairs for the 2023 term. The Standby Team is composed of world-leading mediation experts and scholars who can be deployed to provide advice to the UN on a wide range of issues that arise in mediation and preventive diplomacy efforts. These issues include the design and management of dialogue processes, constitution-making, gender and inclusion issues, natural resources, power-sharing and security arrangements. Several experts are selected to join the team through a competitive process, and they rotate every year. Dr. Çuhadar will serve in this capacity throughout 2023 as the first expert appointed to this position from Turkey. Dr. Çuhadar will assist the UN especially in mediation and dialogue process design and as an inclusion expert.
