59th Library Week activities were held from March 27 to April 2. This year’s theme was “Achievements of the Republic and Librarianship.” Activities to mark this year’s celebrations included a library surprise activity, “Find an article, win the prize” competition, and a discussion on the contributions of women librarians in Turkey.
The library surprise activity took place on March 27th at the Main Campus Library. The event aimed to raise awareness about the library’s resources and services. The winner was Yusuf Özkan from the Department of Industrial Engineering.
On March 29th, the library hosted a competition called “Find an article, win the prize.” This online competition was open to all current Bilkent University students. Participants received an email with a bibliographic reference related to an article, and their task was to find the article and reply to the email with the article attached. The first competitor to send the article correctly was Asaf Kaya from the Department of Physics.
On March 30, Hacettepe University Information Management students visited the library. The orientation focused on the library’s wide range of collections, including the Special Collection, Halil İnalcık Collection and Hasan Ali Yücel Collection. In addition, students were introduced to the library’s professional services.
As part of the program, Bilkent Library Director Dr. Ebru Kaya spoke at the panel, “Cumhuriyet’in Kadın Kütüphanecileri,” on March 31. The conversation was focused on the history of women librarians in Turkey.
