On April 4, 2023, Bilkent University Center for Human Rights Studies and Research (the HRC) hosted the International Protection and Migration in Turkey Conference at Mithat Çoruh Conference Hall.
The conference commemorated the 10th anniversary of Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, bringing together around 200 participants, including scholars, practitioners and experts in the area of international protection and migration.
The conference was led by Prof. Ece Göztepe, Chair of the HRC, and Asst. Prof. Ayşe Dicle Ergin, Executive Board Member of the HRC. Rector Prof. Kürşat Aydoğan delivered the opening speech of the conference. The event featured distinguished keynote speakers, including Prof. Kemal Kirişçi, Mr. Atilla Toros, Prof. Ahmet İçduygu and other prominent academics as well as representatives from the Presidency of Migration Management, Ministry of Interior and International Organization for Migration. They shared valuable insights and perspectives on the contemporary issues related to migration and international protection in Turkey.
The conference covered a wide range of topics, including migration and governance; international protection and temporary protection; migration and integration; and refugee law. The discussions were thought-provoking and engaging and provided a platform for knowledge exchange and a critical analysis of the current state of international protection and migration in Turkey.
The Department of Translation and Interpreting provided assistance and dedication in offering interpretation services during the conference.
