A team of students from Bilkent University, Boğaziçi University and Koç University has won one of the four top awards at the Teknofest Agriculture Technologies Competition, where they competed against 5,283 other projects. The team, named Agricure, created the project “Application of Blockchain Technology in the Food Supply Chain,” which aims to increase transparency and reliability in the food supply chain using blockchain technology.
Led by team captain Yavuz Bülent Yurduseven, a freshman in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Bilkent University, and his teammates Agah Emre Çelebi from Boğaziçi University and Mahir Tilkicioğlu from Koç University, Agricure’s innovative solution allows consumers to trace their food products from the field to the table. The system provides access to crucial data, such as the age of the tree from which the fruit is harvested and the pesticides used during cultivation. The project’s primary goal is to prevent fraud, stabilize prices and generate datasets for future agricultural research.
In addition to their top five placement, Agricure also received the Best Presentation Award at the competition. The project has garnered significant interest from investors and industry professionals. The team is currently working on improving their system and looking forward to pilot testing their project, with plans to expand and scale in the near future.
