On December 5, the Department of International Relations hosted a book talk as a part of the series of events organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic. During the event, a book coedited by Prof. Binnur Özkeçeci-Taner and Prof. Sinem Akgül Açıkmeşe, “One Hundred Years of Turkish Foreign Policy (1923–2023): Historical and Theoretical Reflections,” was launched. This book stands out as a work written by an all-women (13) panel of scholars. While presenting a summary of the evolution of Turkish foreign policy in the last century, the book also offers an in-depth analysis on Turkey’s foreign policy vis-à-vis global actors and different regions of the world.
Irmak Kızılkaya, Department of International Relations student, suggested that the event “was really fascinating, and it was a big chance to meet the women professors I admire.” Melike Metintaş, a PhD student in the same Department, said that seeing an all-women panel of researchers at the height of their careers accomplishing these tasks was an extra motivation for women students in their careers.
