What were your first impressions about Turkey?
It was a new and different atmosphere with a culture unlike anything I’d experienced before. It was difficult to communicate because of the language barrier.
What do you like best about Bilkent and Turkey?
I like the green campus and how easy it is to get to the city center from the university.
Are there any similarities between Turkey and your home country?
I haven’t really noticed anything in particular, just enjoying my time here, you know?
What will you miss most about Bilkent/Turkey?
The friends that I have made.
What’s your favorite place on campus, and why?
The FA studios, because of all the great memories I’ve made with my friends there.
What’s your favorite Turkish food and why?
Dürüm, because it has a special and distinct taste.
Where do you expect to see yourself 10 years from now?
I have not thought that far ahead but probably back home.
What’s one thing you learned from Turkish culture?
Kindness and hospitality go a long way.
What places have you visited in Turkey, and which one is your favorite?
I’ve visited İstanbul and İzmir. As a Mauritian, I really enjoyed the ocean and the peaceful breezes in Izmir that reminded me of home.
What’s an interesting question or comment you hear frequently at Bilkent/in Turkey?
“Where are you from? Oh, Morocco? Madagascar?”

How is the studying experience at Bilkent?
It’s challenging but rewarding.
