The Department of Performing Arts premiered a new play, “Aşk Öldürür,” last week on March 21. The production was adapted from the play by French writer Vladimir Volkoff by senior students as a graduation project. Olcay Poyraz translated the play. “Aşk Öldürür” will be staged at Bilkent FMPA Main Stage on March 28, April 4, 18 and 25, and May 2 at 8 p.m.
“Love Kills” (English translation of title) is a (relatively light-hearted) take on the true story of Henri Désiré Landru. Landru is presented as a bumbling incompetent rather than the cold-blooded killer he is known to be, helplessly driven by his (to put it mildly) questionable love for his wives. As his deceased ex-wives, who await him in the afterlife, prepare to tear his unparalleled devotion to shreds, the play is a journey into the depths of these relationships (and murders) where “love” reigns supreme, even over death.
Directed by Işıl Kasapoğlu as well as by Berkay Şekerci as director’s assistant, the play features theater department students Aslı Bilge, Ayşe Yağmur Başak, Berfin Tosuner, Elif Özkara, İlker Şengül, Orkan Aydın and Yağmur Şen as well as guest artist Berkay Şekerci. The set design of the play was realized by Özlem Gezgin, lighting design by Yılmaz Ertekin, costume design by Gökçe Şener and sound design by Arda Bayram.
