On 2016, the Faculty of Engineering and the Academic Student Coordination Unit (ASCU) initiated a program to connect engineering freshmen with third- and fourth-year engineering students. Through this program, students new to the Faculty of Engineering have had the opportunity to join contact groups via WhatsApp in which volunteer third- and fourth-year engineering students welcome them and offer them guidance.
The program continues to run this academic year, and the groups were formed in conjunction with the announcement of placement results. As a result, communication was in full swing by the time group members met face-to-face on campus last week over pizza, berliner and refreshments.
Comments from some senior volunteers who have taken part in the program:
“As a senior Industrial Engineering student, it was a pleasure to organize this year’s welcome event for our new students. The gathering, filled with laughter, pizza and dessert, allowed everyone to connect in a warm and informal setting. It was incredible to see students from different backgrounds engage with one another and begin forming the friendships and networks that will support them throughout their academic journey. I believe these early moments of connection set a strong foundation for their time at Bilkent University, and I’m grateful to have been a part of this experience.”

“We want to express our gratitude to Bilkent for this program. Once again, we were thrilled to meet and communicate with our newcomers. The event was fun and lively, and the pizza and dessert were delightful. I hope this tradition will continue for future generations.”
