What were your first impressions about Türkiye?
I came here a month ago. My first impressions were that people are very friendly, the food is very delicious and there are so many cats.
What do you like best about Bilkent and Türkiye?
The thing I like best about Bilkent is that I can find everything on campus, and I don’t have to leave the campus. Our dorm is very beautiful and big.
Are there any similarities between Türkiye and your home country?
Yesss! The food and languages are quite similar.
What will you miss most about Bilkent/Türkiye?
The time I spent with my friends and the delicious waffles at Çatı.
What’s your favorite place on campus, and why?
The benches near Bilka. It is very comforting sitting there at night, thinking about life and observing the skyline.
What’s your favorite Turkish food and why?
Menemen is my favorite Turkish food. It was my favorite food in Azerbaijan, and it reminds me of my home country.
Where do you expect to see yourself 10 years from now?
I see myself in a billion-dollar company that my sister and I would create. I would like to have a Doberman as a pet and a big villa in Switzerland or Azerbaijan.
What’s one thing you learned from Turkish culture?
Drinking ayran every single day and saying “kolay gelsin” to everyone. In Azerbaijan, we have a culture of drinking a lot of tarxun or kampot. Instead of saying “kolay gelsin” we say “good luck.”
What places have you visited in Türkiye, and which one is your favorite?
I have been to Antalya, İstanbul, Trabzon and İzmir. İzmir is my favorite place as there is a lot of greenery, many beaches and the people are very calm.
What’s an interesting question or comment you hear frequently at Bilkent/in Türkiye?
“Is Azerbaijan beautiful?” and “Do you understand Turkish completely?”
Describe yourself in three words.
Positive, caring and understanding.
How is the studying experience at Bilkent?
I can’t say much because I just started, but I think it is going well.
