Bilkent University will host the İhsan Doğramacı Memorial Lecture on Friday, November 29, at the İhsan and Ayser Doğramacı Science, Culture and Art Center, with Prof. Mete Atatüre as the keynote speaker.
Prof. Atatüre, a 1996 graduate of the Department of Physics and a leading figure in the field of quantum optics, is internationally renowned for his groundbreaking work on the fundamentals of quantum light and quantum control of solid-state spins. He is a fellow of Optica, the Institute of Physics, Academia Europaea and the Science Academy of Türkiye. As the current Head of the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, Prof. Atatüre continues to build on a rich legacy of scientific innovation. The Cavendish Laboratory, established in 1874, has been home to over 30 Nobel laureates who have made pivotal discoveries such as the electron, neutron and the structure of DNA.
During the lecture, Prof. Atatüre will deliver his talk titled “A Quantum Tale of Gemstone and Light,” exploring the intriguing intersection of quantum physics and the natural world. The event promises to be an intellectually enriching experience, reflecting both the depth of Prof. Atatüre’s expertise and the pioneering spirit of Bilkent University.
