On October 4, the Modern Turkish Architecture Illustrated (Çizgilerle Modern Türkiye Mimarlığı) graphic novel and animated film series was awarded the Press Prize by the Turkish Association of Architects in Private Practice (TürkSMD) as part of the 16th Architecture Awards. The works, coauthored by Cem Dedekargınoğlu, instructor in the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, consist of four books and films depicting the key figures and buildings of the first hundred years of the Turkish Republic.
The project was created by a team that includes coauthors/researchers Assoc. Prof. Umut Şumnu and Onur Kutluoğlu and illustrators Ahmet Aslan, Bahadır Yazıcı and Kayahan Kaya. It was realized through the partnership of Arkitera and VitrA.
“The Phantom of the Opera House” (Opera’nın Hayaleti) and “The Staircases of Ankara Palas” (Ankara Palas’ın Merdivenleri), the first two books of the project, were published by Karakarga Press in 2023 and 2024. The following books, “The Key of the Floating Kiosk” (Yüzen Köşk’ün Anahtarı) and “There is a Serpent in Sultanahmet” (Sultanahmet’te Var Bir Yılan) will be published by the end of 2024.
