“Call for Life,” a mnemonic data sculpture by Asst. Prof. Efe Alpay of the Department of Graphic Design, has had a very significant recognition from The Lumen Prize & Studios. The project has been nominated as one of 65 finalists from among 2000 submissions, a finalist in the Lumen Prize 2024 Impact category.
Created more than one year ago, this project by Dr. Alpay is a work of art made by transforming a collective sonic memory into digital-physical objects using computational design methods. The work was generated using audio data recorded during a rescue operation in Samandağ, Hatay, following the February 6th Kahramanmaraş earthquake.
The Lumen Prize is an international award that celebrates art created with technology, especially digital art. The Lumen Prize Impact category awards are given to the best works created with technology that address socioeconomic, cultural and humanitarian issues.
