Bilkent University Inaugurates the Sedat Alp Collection

The Department of Archaeology inaugurated the Sedat Alp Collection on February 14 in the department’s Reading Room. The event marked the official inclusion of an extensive collection of books, periodicals, notes and photographs into the department’s library.

The collection, consisting of 900 items related to Hittitology, Assyriology, Archaeology and Ancient History, was generously donated by Mehpare Alp, daughter of the late Professor Sedat Alp. Prof. Alp, a pioneering figure in Turkish Hittitology, played a crucial role in advancing the study of Anatolian civilizations.

The newly established collection includes both physical materials and digitized excavation records, providing invaluable resources for scholars and students. Attendees at the inauguration acknowledged the significance of this donation, emphasizing its potential to enhance research in the field.

In addition to its archival materials, the collection features a small exhibition, designed by graduate and undergraduate students, showcasing selected photographs, drawings, and personal documents, offering visitors insight into Sedat Alp’s research and scholarly legacy.
