On November 25, 2025, a workshop titled “Creating a New Discourse in Response to Hate Speech Against Foreigners” was organized in collaboration between the IGAM (İltica ve Göç araştırmaları Merkezi), Research Centre on Asylum and Migration and Bilkent University. The event was hosted by Bilkent University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture. Prof. Bülent Çaplı and Assoc. Prof Emel Özdora from the Communication and Design Department and Assoc. Prof Gülüm Özçelik from the Faculty of Law attended the event.
Setting a strong example for university-civil society partnership, the workshop brought together representatives from public institutions working in this field, academics, communication experts and representatives from civil society. They shared their knowledge, experiences and suggestions on developing a rights-based, inclusive and alternative discourse to combat hate speech on and offline.
