The Department of Mathematics has a long tradition of honoring outstanding undergraduate and graduate mathematics students through the annual Orhan Alisbah Mathematics Awards, supported by the generous contributions of the Alisbah family.
Three students, Yaman Paksoy (MATH/PhD), Yusuf Nar (MATH/IV) and Uzay Çetin (MATH/IV), received this year’s Orhan Alisbah Fellowships at a ceremony that took place in the UNAM Conference Hall on December 20.
The fellowships are conferred annually in memory of Prof. Orhan Alisbah (1910–1989), one of Turkey’s best-known mathematicians, and his son Bilsel Alisbah (1937–2017), former lecturer at Bilkent University. The award helps keep the memory of Prof. Alisbah alive so that he may continue to serve as an exemplary role model for young mathematicians.
