Twenty years (1992–2012) of intensive research at Kinet Höyük, conducted by now-retired Bilkent Archaeology faculty members Assoc. Prof. Marie-Henriette Gates and Dr. Charles Gates, has started to materialize in a series of books and monographs authored by core members of the excavation team and a multinational group of distinguished scholars. “Kinet Höyük 2 – The Early Bronze Age and Earlier Occupations,” was recently published in its hardcover edition by İstanbul-based International Publisher Ege Yayınları. The book contains the scientific harvest of third-millennium BC architecture and artefact analysis, including scattered evidence for even earlier human activity at the site. Christine Eslick, the main author of this book, collaborated with a wide range of additional contributors, including internationally acclaimed experts like Andrew Fairbairn and Salima İkram and long-term Bilkenters such as field director Marie-Henriette Gates and current Bilkent Archaeology department member Assoc. Prof. Thomas Zimmermann, to guarantee an in-depth account on life, work and commerce at this Cilician harbor town 5,000 years ago. Further special studies about the Late Bronze and Iron Age, Hellenistic and Medieval legacy at Kinet are scheduled to appear regularly in the coming years in the “Bilkent University Excavations at Kinet Höyük (Hatay): Final Reports” series.
