On September 30, the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management concluded a three-day evaluative visit by the Tourism Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council (TURAK), the sole YÖK-authorized educational accreditation institution of Türkiye in the fields of tourism management, recreation management and gastronomy and culinary arts as well as tourist guiding. The visit, which included a virtual visit on September 27 and two comprehensive on-site inspections on September 29 and 30 — followed the accreditation renewal application of THM on September 1. The visiting committee consisted of the vice president of TURAK, Prof. İbrahim Birkan, two academicians and two industrial evaluators.
The preparation process for the TURAK accreditation renewal was an eight-month long department-wide effort that began in January 2024. It was finalized on September 1 with a 300+ page report submitted to the accrediting body. A collaborative work of THM faculty and administration, the report not only detailed the educational status-quo of the THM program but also all the quality improvements that have taken place since the last accreditation pertinent to educational goals and plans, student success, faculty advancement, administrative integrity, infrastructural enhancement and institutional support.
The report also highlighted the strengths of the THM program, that is, its commitment to continuous learning and development and its long-established and strong bonds with the industry as well as the pioneering success of its graduates.
THM previously received full accreditation by TURAK, being one of the first universities in the country to receive such a designation. This previous accreditation was awarded for five years in 2020, which is slated to end on December 31, 2024.
