What were your first impressions about Türkiye?
When I first arrived in Türkiye, I was impressed by the warm hospitality of the people, the vibrant culture and the blend of modernity with rich history. The architecture, especially in cities like İstanbul and Ankara, fascinated me, and I immediately felt a sense of familiarity despite being in a new country.
What do you like best about Bilkent and Türkiye?
At Bilkent, I love the academic environment, the diversity of students and the opportunities for personal and intellectual growth. The campus is well-structured, and the professors are highly knowledgeable and supportive. As for Türkiye, I appreciate its cultural diversity, delicious cuisine and the breathtaking landscapes.
Are there any similarities between Türkiye and your home country?
Yes, there are some huge similarities. We speak almost the same languages, and we have very similar cuisines.
What will you miss most about Bilkent/Türkiye?
I will miss the friends I’ve made, the campus life and the overall experience of being in such a dynamic academic setting. Outside of Bilkent, I’ll miss the food and the warm and lively atmosphere of Turkish cities.
What’s your favorite place on campus, and why?
My favorite place on campus is the Coffee Break café, which is located in the center of the main campus. I love it because it’s where I can relax between classes, enjoy a great view, do some studies and meet my friends.
What’s your favorite Turkish food and why?
My favorite Turkish food is Lahmacun. I love it because it has a specific taste and blends lots of ingredients that I love.
Where do you expect to see yourself 10 years from now?
In 10 years, I see myself working in a leading research institution or biotechnology company. My goal is to be involved in cutting-edge molecular biology research that contributes to medical or scientific advancements.
What’s one thing you learned from Turkish culture?
One thing I’ve learned from Turkish culture is the deep sense of hospitality. Turkish people are incredibly welcoming, and they make you feel at home even if you’re a stranger.
What places have you visited in Türkiye, and which one is your favorite?
I’ve visited İstanbul, Ankara, Bodrum and İzmir. My favorite is İstanbul because of its blend of history and modern life.
What’s an interesting question or comment you hear frequently at Bilkent/in Türkiye?
One interesting comment I often hear is, “How do you manage to balance your studies and social life?” Bilkent is academically demanding, but I believe that time management and a passion for what you do make it possible to succeed while still enjoying university life.
