The Kalbiye Tansel and Çiğdem Barçan Tansel Thesis Awards ceremony, organized by the Graduate School of Economics and Social Sciences, took place on Thursday, April 2, at C-Block Auditorium. The ceremony began with opening remarks by Director Prof. Refet S. Gürkaynak. Prof. Aysıt Tansel, representing the Tansel family, was next to speak. At the ceremony, awards were presented for the 2022–23 and 2023–24 academic years.
For the 2022–23 academic year, the Kalbiye Tansel Best PhD Thesis Award was granted to Elif Bürümlü Kısa (Psychology) for her dissertation titled “Maternal Discourse Styles in the Storytelling and Reminiscing Contexts in Relation to Preschoolers’ Perspective-Taking Abilities,” supervised by Assoc. Prof. Hande Ilgaz. The Çiğdem Barçan Tansel Best Master’s Thesis Award was awarded to Muhammet Ali Akman (Archaeology) for his thesis “Quantitative Approaches to Hittite Historical Geography: A Network Analysis of Hittite Toponyms,” supervised by Asst. Prof. Nebahat İlgi Gerçek.
For the 2023–24 academic year, the Kalbiye Tansel Best PhD Thesis Award was presented to Buse Düveroğlu (International Relations) for her dissertation “Unveiling the Process Behind Counterinsurgency: Three Essays on the Impact of Leadership, Group and Societal Dynamics on Policymaking,” supervised by Assoc. Prof. Efe Tokdemir. The Çiğdem Barçan Tansel Best Master’s Thesis Award was awarded to Hasan Duymuş (Psychology) for his thesis “The Visual Cortices of Congenitally and Non-Congenitally Blind Individuals Become a Part of Cognitive Control Network,” supervised by Asst. Prof. Ausaf Ahmed Farooqui.
