Department of Music Alumna Interprets Works of Necil Kazım Akses

Esra Abacioğlu Akcan (MUS’96) became the first artist in Turkey to professionally interpret the works of Necil Kazım Akses (1908-1999), one of the pioneering composers of contemporary Turkish music. Soprano Akcan recorded 8 songs from Akses’ books (Portraits 1 & 2) at İTÜ MIAM studio. These recordings, which carry the Ak Music label, are currently available on digital music platforms. Akcan received her master’s degree, also from Bilkent, and continues to work at the İstanbul State Opera and Ballet.
