Engineering Students Receive Awards in Transportation Innovation Competition

Students from the Faculty of Engineering have been awarded an Honorable Mention in the “Reaching and Accessing Türkiye 2053 Inter-University Idea Competition,” organized by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

Now in its second year, the competition was launched to shape the future of Türkiye’s transportation, maritime and communication sectors. It aims to encourage young talents to develop innovative and sustainable solutions while strengthening the collaboration between academia and industry.

Melih Rıza Yıldız, a third-year Computer Engineering student, received recognition for his project titled “Enhancing Energy Efficiency in Highways.” His proposal focuses on improving efficiency and effectiveness in transportation, enhancing the quality and competency of logistics services and reducing operational costs across the sector.

A team of third-year students from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering—Atalay Üstündağ, Eren Polat, Nehir Demirli, and Emre Toksoy—were recognized for their project, “RAY-NET Railway Logistics Network.” The Ray-Net project aims to shift the logistic burden from highways to railways across Türkiye, promoting rail transport as a primary option. The project envisions the establishment of strategically located warehouses and transfer centers that will facilitate the transportation of cargo via rail, followed by distribution to final destinations using road vehicles.

The award highlights the students’ forward-thinking approach and their potential contribution to a more sustainable and efficient transportation future for Türkiye.
