Reporting from Merter: Where Trends Meet the Rack—Spring 2026
For those unfamiliar with it, Merter is one of Türkiye’s largest wholesale textile hubs—a place where trends do not begin on social media, but on racks. Long before they reach your Instagram feed or your favorite boutique window, many quietly pass through its streets—including the pieces that later arrive at my mother’s boutique.
Having observed and taken part in the preparations for the Spring 2026 collection, I found myself not only selecting garments but also noticing patterns in colors, silhouettes and fabrics. Many pieces I had read about in fashion magazines and blogs appeared before me, reflected in the collections offered by different brands. The alignment between global trend narratives and tangible products was evident in subtle ways. In this piece, I would like to share some of those observations.
Spring 2026 fashion is all about color, stripes, polka dots and bold accessories. Far from leaning on basics, the season feels unapologetically vibrant—making room for expressive, detail-oriented combinations that have a distinct personality. As someone who enjoys character in styling, I found this shift both refreshing and exciting.
One of the clearest returns? Denim on denim.
Not as a nostalgic throwback, but as a deliberate styling choice. Structured jackets paired with relaxed jeans, darker washes layered over lighter ones; the “Canadian tuxedo” is intentional.
Outerwear stood out as well. Buttoned trench coats, structured jackets and even Napoleon-inspired silhouettes offer endless possibilities for thoughtful layering. Trench coats are my favorite—I’m excited to style them in various fits and pair them with scarves for unique combinations. They bring contrast and balance, proving that Spring 2026 loves experimenting with proportions and creative combinations.
Color-wise, shades of brown kept reappearing, explored in more vivid and new combinations for spring. Icy blue and olive green emerge as perfect companions, adding freshness and depth. The butter yellow wave from last summer continues, reminding us that some shades never truly disappear—they simply evolve.
Additionally, the patterns were impossible to ignore. Stripes and polka dots appeared across flowing dresses, scarves and blouses, reinforcing the season’s lively mood and adding movement to garments. Marine-inspired prints also made a splash: t-shirts adorned with fish, oysters and lobsters are ideal for adding a sporty touch to more formal looks, bringing a hint of summer playfulness to the outfits.
Lace, stepping out of winter’s shadow, continues onto spring and summer blouses, adding delicate detailing that softens the bolder combinations while bringing an extra touch of elegance to outfits. Silk long skirts and blouses also shine this season, flowing effortlessly and allowing for expressive, personalized styling.
Speaking of contrasts, capri leggings from the activewear trend pair unexpectedly well with chic mini-heeled sandals. These combinations, though slightly bold, feel deliberate—sporty elements meet refined touches, proving that Spring 2026 favors creativity and fearless styling. While this pairing is relatively rare in the Turkish market, it will be interesting to see whether this trend catches on locally in the coming months.
Finally, a subtle nod to the Far East can be found in qipao-inspired dresses and structured blouses as well as Tang-style jackets. These designs feature tailored shapes and intricate details, bringing a touch of traditional Asian elegance to an otherwise vibrant and expressive season. While still relatively niche in Türkiye, with a more exclusive market, these pieces show potential to grow in popularity as Spring 2026 trends unfold.
Altogether, Spring 2026 is a season in which colors, patterns and styles converge, interacting and layering to form a cohesive identity. From playful prints to structured silhouettes, from fluid silk to bold accessories, the collection encourages personal expression. Even if you usually stick to basics, this season invites you to experiment and embrace a little playfulness. In Merter, these trends can be seen first; however, I’m curious to see which of them will make their way onto our campus and influence how we express fashion in our daily lives.
